Opposition Disrupts Lok Sabha Over West Asia Crisis, Proceedings Adjourned Until Tuesday

New Delhi, March 9: The Lok Sabha proceedings have been adjourned until 11 AM on March 10 due to disruptions caused by the opposition. Opposition MPs accused the central government of maintaining a ‘silence’ regarding the escalating tensions in West Asia. They staged protests within the parliamentary complex.

The opposition has also demanded immediate action to ensure the safe return of Indians stranded in the affected countries. Additionally, they urged the government to clarify its plans to address the potential energy crisis that may arise due to the instability in West Asia.

Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the Rajya Sabha, outlining the government’s stance on the situation. He discussed concerns regarding the safety of Indian citizens in Gulf countries and the implications for India’s energy security. However, opposition MPs expressed dissatisfaction with the minister’s statements.

Key opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, participated in the protests.

BJP MP Anurag Thakur stated that in the current global scenario, the measures taken by India for its citizens, both domestically and abroad, were thoroughly detailed by the External Affairs Minister. He criticized the opposition for their lack of direction, noting their pending motions against the Speaker and a no-confidence motion, which he claimed they mishandled.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh remarked that such behavior in the House was unprecedented, especially under the leadership of the opposition. He described the disruption as a violation of the public’s right to governance.

BJP MP Sambit Patra highlighted that the entire nation was watching the proceedings through television and social media, witnessing how the opposition, particularly the Congress party, was undermining the decorum of the House. He accused the Congress of attempting to encircle the House with a ‘mafia raj’ mentality.

Akhilesh Yadav emphasized that the government must clearly articulate its stance on the ongoing conflict, as many Indians, including tourists, remain stranded. He noted that journalists accompanying the Prime Minister initially appeared as political reporters but now seem to be covering war-related issues, raising concerns about the safety of those stranded.
