New Delhi, May 15: OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, has integrated its AI coding assistant, ‘Codex,’ into the ChatGPT mobile app. This feature allows developers to monitor, manage, and approve coding tasks remotely from their smartphones.
Currently available in preview mode, this feature is accessible across all ChatGPT plans, including the free and pro versions.
With this integration, users can connect their phones to Codex-enabled machines such as laptops, Mac Minis, development boxes, and managed remote systems. They will be able to view live updates related to their projects directly within the ChatGPT app.
According to OpenAI, users can review outputs, approve commands, switch AI models, initiate new coding tasks, and monitor ongoing work—all without returning to their desktop systems.
The company stated, “Real-time updates like screenshots, terminal outputs, diffs, test results, and approvals will sync within the mobile app, while files, login information, and permission-related data will remain secure on the connected machine.”
OpenAI also reported that over 4 million users are now utilizing Codex weekly.
Remote SSH support and hooks are now generally available across all plans, and programmatic access tokens have been introduced for enterprise and business users.
Additionally, OpenAI announced that HIPAA-compliant support for Codex usage on local systems will be available in the ChatGPT Enterprise workspace for eligible health and enterprise sectors.
The company also revealed plans to soon enable the connection of Codex running on Windows systems with the ChatGPT mobile app.
