OnePlus Launches Android 17 Beta 2 for OnePlus 15 Users

Mumbai, March 26: OnePlus is expanding opportunities for developers and early adopters to explore its upcoming software update. The company has officially introduced the Android 17 Beta 2 developer preview program for the OnePlus 15.

This new build is based on Android 17 Beta 2 from Google, incorporating the latest platform changes while ensuring compatibility with the most recent Google Mobile Services (GMS) package. OnePlus has clarified that any native apps that replicate functionalities already covered by GMS will not be included.

OnePlus 15 Android 17 Beta 2 is Not for Casual Users

However, like most developer previews, this version is not intended for casual users. OnePlus has explicitly warned about the risks involved. Installing Android 17 Beta 2 will completely erase the device’s storage, wiping out everything from photos to music to app data. Users should proceed only if they are prepared for this.

There are strict prerequisites before users can attempt the upgrade. The OnePlus 15 must be running specific Android 16 builds—either version 16.0.5.701 or 16.0.3.503. Users outside this range may need to downgrade or upgrade before accessing the beta.

The installation process is quite manual. Users must download the firmware package on a PC, transfer it to the phone’s storage, enable developer options, and then initiate a local installation process in the settings. This involves several steps, including extracting the firmware file and manually starting the installation. If the “Install Locally” option fails, OnePlus suggests clearing app data for the system updater and disconnecting from the internet before trying again.

If you aren’t technically inclined, it might be best to wait for a more stable release. However, if you are developing apps or are curious enough to navigate the risks, the Android 17 Beta 2 for the OnePlus 15 is now available for testing.
