
Bhubaneswar, July 1: Continuing its crackdown on government employees involved in corruption, the Odisha Vigilance team launched simultaneous raids on multiple locations linked to two officials of the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, Sambalpur district, on Tuesday.
The action was taken due to allegations that these officials possess assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. The officials targeted in the raids are Dhanurdhar Biswal (Establishment Officer-cum-Office Superintendent) and Ashwini Meher (Steward in the Superintendent’s Office at VIMSAR).
These operations were conducted based on search warrants issued by the Special Judge (Vigilance) in Sambalpur. An official statement revealed that a team from the Vigilance department, comprising two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), five inspectors, three Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), and other supporting staff, raided four locations associated with Dhanurdhar Biswal.
Similarly, another team, including five DSPs, five inspectors, three ASIs, and additional personnel, conducted searches at five locations linked to Ashwini Meher in Sambalpur and Bargarh districts.
During the house searches, Vigilance officials have uncovered movable and immovable properties belonging to Biswal and his family members. These assets include a two-story residential building in Dhanakuda, another building in Gudessinga, 20 valuable plots on the outskirts of Sambalpur city, cash amounting to ₹1,972,490, gold jewelry, and various investments in bank and postal deposits, as well as other financial instruments, which are currently being assessed.
In addition, properties associated with Meher and his family members include a four-story building under construction in Sourav Vihar (Burla), a building near Kendriya Vidyalaya (Burla city), another building in Govindpalli, Bargarh district, a storeroom in Burla city, and ten valuable plots (six in Burla city, two in Sambalpur, and two in Bargarh). They also have bank and postal deposits and other investments, which are under investigation.
