Bhubaneswar, August 2 (H.S.) — A 16-year-old minor girl from Odisha’s Puri district, who was brutally set on fire by unidentified assailants, succumbed to her injuries on Saturday at AIIMS Delhi. The girl had suffered 75% burn injuries and had been on ventilator support for several days.

The tragic incident occurred in broad daylight on July 19 near Bayabar village in the Balanga area of Puri, when unknown attackers poured a flammable substance on the girl and set her ablaze. Initially admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, her condition deteriorated, prompting authorities to airlift her to AIIMS Delhi on July 20 for advanced treatment.
Despite multiple surgeries and the continuous efforts of medical specialists, her condition did not improve significantly, and she passed away during treatment.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the girl’s death. In a post on X, he wrote, “Deeply shocked by the news of the death of the girl from Balanga. Despite all efforts by the government and the tireless work of doctors at AIIMS Delhi, we could not save her.”
He added, “I pray to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and give strength to the grieving family to bear this irreparable loss.”
