Mumbai, May 19: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Tuesday that various welfare schemes for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community are being effectively implemented through coordination between the central and state governments.
Efforts are being made to ensure the quality and effectiveness of these schemes aimed at the overall development of the OBC community. Fadnavis emphasized that the progress of the OBCs is fundamental to the state’s overall advancement.
He made these remarks during a discussion with the Parliamentary Committee on OBC Welfare. The meeting was attended by Atul Save, the Minister for OBC Welfare, Ganesh Singh, the chairperson of the committee, and other members.
Fadnavis highlighted that the state government is effectively implementing various schemes to empower education and promote economic upliftment for the OBC community.
The establishment of an independent OBC Welfare Department has accelerated the implementation of various welfare schemes for OBCs, nomadic tribes, special backward classes, and other marginalized groups.
The Chief Minister pointed out key educational initiatives, including scholarships for students, financial assistance for studying abroad, and 100% fee waivers for girls pursuing higher education.
He noted that ashram schools are being run through the OBC department, providing educational opportunities to students in rural and remote areas.
Fadnavis also reported that a total of 72 hostels for boys and girls have been launched across the state’s 36 districts, a project continuously monitored by Minister Atul Save.
For students who do not secure hostel admission, the ‘Swayam’ scheme has been initiated, offering financial assistance of up to ₹60,000 for living and educational expenses.
Additionally, the Mahajyoti Institute provides training for various competitive exams, including those conducted by the Union Public Service Commission and the Maharashtra Public Service Commission.
Through this training, 29 students have successfully cleared the Union Public Service Commission exam, while 118 students passed the Maharashtra Public Service Commission exam.
