Nepal Begins Construction of New School Building with Indias Support

Kathmandu, August 1: The construction of a new school building in Khajura Rural Municipality, Banke District, Nepal, has commenced with financial assistance from the Indian government. This announcement was made by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

Counselor Geetanjali Brandon from the Indian Embassy and Dambar Bahadur BK, the chairman of Khajura Rural Municipality, jointly laid the foundation stone for the new building of Shri Jan Kalyan Secondary School.

The Indian government will provide approximately NPR 32 million (around 3.2 crore Nepali Rupees) for this project under its High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) program.

According to the embassy, the implementation of this project will be carried out through Khajura Rural Municipality. This marks the eighth HICDP initiative launched in Banke District with India’s support.

Local representatives and stakeholders welcomed India’s collaboration, stating that the new school building will offer students a better educational environment and modern facilities for teachers.

The Indian Embassy noted that this project is part of India’s ongoing development partnership with Nepal, aimed at strengthening infrastructure in priority areas and supporting the Nepalese government’s socio-economic development efforts.

Meanwhile, a new operation theater building at Rapti Eye Hospital in Dang District, Lumbini Province, was inaugurated on Thursday, also with financial assistance from the Indian government.

Counselor Geetanjali Brandon and Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan Mayor Tikaram Khadka jointly inaugurated the two-story operation theater building at Rapti Eye Hospital in Tulsipur.

This project aims to enhance eye care services in western Nepal. The building was also constructed with the Indian government’s financial support under the HICDP program through Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan Municipality. This marks the seventh HICDP project completed in Dang District with India’s assistance.

India has been consistently supporting Nepal in sectors such as health, education, and community infrastructure through HICDP projects under its development cooperation program.

Initiated in 2003, this program was previously known as Small Development Projects (SDP). It supports small infrastructure and community development projects in priority areas identified by the Nepalese government, including health, education, drinking water, sanitation, drainage, rural electrification, hydropower, and river management.

According to the Indian Embassy, since the inception of the HICDP program, the Indian government has implemented nearly 600 development projects across all seven provinces and 74 districts of Nepal.
