Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Discusses AI Memory Collaboration with SK Group

Seoul, June 2: Jensen Huang, the CEO of American chip manufacturer Nvidia, met with Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, in Taipei. The two leaders discussed future collaborations in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) memory.

This meeting took place in Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, as announced by SK Group via a Facebook post. Both executives were in Taiwan to participate in Computex, one of Asia’s largest technology trade fairs.

The Facebook post highlighted the significance of SK Hynix reaching a market capitalization of $1 trillion. The meeting provided an opportunity for the top officials of both companies to review their achievements in AI memory and reaffirm their commitment to ushering in a new era of AI infrastructure.

Earlier this week, Huang had identified robotics as a potential investment area before his trip to South Korea. Industry sources indicate that his visit to Seoul is expected to commence on Thursday night. On Friday, Huang will engage in several meetings with leaders of major South Korean industrial groups.

Sources suggest that these meetings may include Chey Tae-won, LG Group chairman Koo Kwang-mo, and Naver’s founder and board chairman Lee Hae-jin. Additionally, Hyundai Motor Group’s executive chairman Euisun Chung is reportedly considering joining these discussions.

Furthermore, Kim Taek-jin, CEO of South Korean gaming company NC Corp, may also meet with Huang on Sunday. A closed-door meeting with local robotics and AI startups is proposed for the following Monday in Seoul. Companies like Upstage, which are contenders in the government’s initiative to develop indigenous AI foundation models, are expected to participate.

Business experts believe that the upcoming discussions will not be limited to AI semiconductor collaboration but may also extend to emerging fields like robotics and physical AI. The goal of physical AI is to integrate AI technology into real machines and systems.

During his previous visit to South Korea in October, Huang attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in Gyeongju, where he enjoyed late-night Korean fried chicken and beer, known locally as “chimaek,” with Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Jae-yong and Euisun Chung. This meeting garnered significant media attention.

There is already considerable excitement surrounding Huang’s visit to South Korea. A website speculating on his potential itinerary has become a topic of discussion online. Industry experts report that an individual named “Jun” has created an online map tracking Huang’s possible activities and related news from his trip.
