New Delhi, September 1: Congress leader Supriya Shrinate has demanded accountability from the government regarding the use of pellet guns during student protests. Commenting on the Cockroach Public Party’s (CJP) decision to cancel a planned demonstration on September 5, she stated that the focus should be on who authorized the use of pellet guns against students.
Referring to regulations, Shrinate emphasized that written orders are required for deploying pellet guns, and it must be signed off. She questioned who provided such authorization in this case.
In a conversation in New Delhi, she remarked that the government must realize it cannot confront the youth of the nation. The government was obligated to withdraw cases against the students, but the critical question remains: who allowed the use of pellet guns? Many students were injured during the incident on July 20, and the government must provide answers.
Shrinate also criticized the central government regarding the economy. While the GDP grew by 7.8% in the first quarter, she pointed out that job creation remains insufficient. People are burdened with debt, and inflation is crippling the common man. She claimed that foreign investors are pulling out of Indian equities, raising serious concerns about the current state of the economy.
Questioning the GDP growth figures, she stated that the effects of rapid economic growth should be visible in the daily lives of ordinary citizens. Economic growth should not only be reflected in GDP numbers but also in the stock market, employment, investment, income levels, and purchasing power.
She raised concerns about who is benefiting from this growth and who is truly advancing economically. The government seems to be presenting a weak economy in an overly optimistic light.
