New Delhi, June 2: Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA, a leading AI and chip manufacturer, emphasized the importance of providing employees with higher salaries and incentives. His remarks come amidst a global debate about sharing the increasing profits from the artificial intelligence (AI) industry with workers.
Speaking to the media at Computex, Asia’s largest technology show held in Taipei, Huang stated, “I believe employees should be paid as much as possible. I strive to give my team the maximum salary. However, this does not mean it is the only right approach, but it is what I do.”
This question arose following Samsung Electronics’ recent announcement of a new compensation agreement for its chip engineers, which could see some engineers receiving bonuses of up to $400,000 (approximately ₹3.3 crore).
Experts note that as profits in the AI and semiconductor sectors surge, demands for better salaries and benefits from employees are also rising. Many companies are now facing pressure to share a larger portion of profits with their workforce.
From South Korea to Taiwan, major companies in the AI and semiconductor industries are under increasing pressure to share profits with employees. Samsung’s agreement with its workers has helped avert the threat of a potential strike.
Meanwhile, TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), the world’s largest chip manufacturer, is also working to address employee concerns. Recently, TSMC CEO C.C. Wei reassured employees in a meeting that the company’s incentive plan would be better this year than before.
As the influence of AI grows, there are rising concerns globally about machines and AI potentially taking jobs from humans. However, Jensen Huang disagrees with this notion.
He argued that fears of job losses due to AI are exaggerated. According to him, AI will create new economic activities, leading to increased revenue, profits, and GDP growth for countries. He dismissed the idea as “baseless,” asserting that AI will enhance both employment and productivity in the future.
During Computex, Huang discussed AI, robotics, and new technologies in detail. He also unveiled several new products, including NVIDIA’s latest PC chip, “Spark.”
When asked about NVIDIA’s investments in Taiwan, he stated that the company’s largest investment is in the semiconductor and electronics industry there. He praised Taiwan’s technological ecosystem, calling it one of the strongest and most advanced semiconductor hubs in the world.
Huang’s comments come at a time when the AI industry is rapidly expanding, and companies are generating record profits, leading to increasing demands for better salaries, bonuses, and benefits for employees. Huang believes that the role of employees is crucial to the success of the AI revolution, and they should receive their fair share of this growth.
