Oslo, May 19: Norway views India as a crucial partner. Over the years, this relationship has strengthened, positioning both nations as powerful allies on the global stage. In an exclusive interview, Norway’s Minister of International Development, Espen Barth Eide, emphasized India’s significant role in Norway’s international development strategy.
Eide expressed pride in the relationship with India, stating, “India is an extremely important partner for Norway in the fields of development and foreign policy. We have been collaborating for many years. India was the first country to receive development assistance from Norway in the 1950s, and today, this relationship has evolved into a robust partnership. It exemplifies how a recipient nation can transform into a vital global partner. Norway takes pride in this relationship with India.”
Regarding climate change and green energy, he noted, “Norway has long utilized renewable energy, particularly hydropower. We can assist India by sharing our expertise in technology, grid systems, and energy management.”
He further mentioned, “Norway possesses advanced technologies like Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), which is part of our green strategic partnership with India. Both countries are committed to learning from each other and enhancing cooperation.”
Minister Eide acknowledged that climate change is one of the greatest global challenges today, and time is running short for solutions. In this context, “the role of a large and significant country like India becomes crucial.” He expressed Norway’s eagerness to continue collaboration with India to tackle the climate crisis and seek global solutions.
