Mumbai, May 25: Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane has sparked political and social discussions once again with his recent remarks. Speaking on the occasion of Bakrid and environmental issues, Rane suggested that just as advice is given regarding environmental protection during Hindu festivals, similar guidance should be offered for Bakrid celebrations.
During an event, Rane pointed out that while some individuals advocate for environmental conservation during festivals like Holi and Diwali, they tend to remain silent during Bakrid. He emphasized that during Holi, people are encouraged to play ‘dry Holi,’ and during Diwali, the use of firecrackers is discouraged. However, he noted that the same voices are absent when it comes to Bakrid.
Referencing Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Rane stated that Savarkar believed Hindus faced more danger from their own than from Muslims. He further urged environmentalists to advocate for a ‘virtual Bakrid’ celebration, suggesting, “Display a photo of a goat on your computer to show that we are sacrificing a goat. Why should animals be subjected to distress?”
Rane questioned whether those who offer environmental advice would have the courage to make similar appeals during Bakrid. He warned that anyone attempting to do so would face consequences.
Nitesh Rane serves as the Minister of Fisheries and Port Development in the Maharashtra government and represents the Kankavli assembly constituency. His comments have ignited reactions in political circles and sparked heated debates on social media.
