
Mumbai, 2 January. The Indian stock market closed with significant gains in Friday’s trading session. This marked the third consecutive session of bullish momentum, with the National Stock Exchange’s key index, Nifty, reaching a new all-time high of 26,340 points.
At the close, Nifty was up by 182 points or 0.70 percent at 26,328.55, while the Sensex saw a rise of 573.41 points or 0.67 percent, finishing at 85,762.01.
The market rally was led by government and energy sector stocks. Nifty PSU index gained 2.29 percent, Nifty Energy rose by 2.16 percent, Nifty Commodities added 1.57 percent, Nifty Realty increased by 1.52 percent, Nifty PSU Bank advanced 1.50 percent, Nifty Metal grew 1.47 percent, and Nifty Consumer Durables climbed 1.17 percent.
Among the major indices, only Nifty FMCG ended lower, declining by 1.19 percent.
Strong gains were also observed in midcap and smallcap segments. The Nifty Midcap 100 index increased by 615.45 points or 1.01 percent to close at 61,365.90, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index rose 127.15 points or 0.72 percent to finish at 17,832.05.
On the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), 2,772 shares closed in the green, 1,449 shares declined, and 150 shares remained unchanged.
Among Sensex stocks, gainers included NTPC, Trent, Bajaj Finance, Power Grid, SBI, Maruti Suzuki, BEL, ICICI Bank, HUL, M&M, HDFC Bank, Asian Paints, TCS, Infosys, Sun Pharma, L&T, Adani Ports, and Tata Steel. Losers were ITC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, Indigo, and Ultratech Cement.
Ajit Mishra, Senior Vice President of Research at Religare Broking, said, “The Indian stock market closed at an all-time high on Friday’s session. Nifty traded positively during the day and closed near the day’s high level, indicating the possibility of continued bullish momentum.”
He added, “The positive market performance is supported by strong auto sales data, pointing towards an improvement in demand.”
The market opened on a positive note. Around 9:20 am, Nifty was up 25.50 points or 0.11 percent at 26,172.35, while the Sensex gained 104.95 points or 0.12 percent to 85,293.55.
