New Delhi, March 18: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has raised serious concerns regarding the new song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” featuring Bollywood actors Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi. NHRC member Priyank Kanungo criticized the song on social media, stating that while morality cannot be expected from Bollywood, it is disgraceful for the censor board to license obscenity.
In a post on the social media platform X, Kanungo wrote, “Which decent family can sit together and watch this? We cannot expect morality from Bollywood, but it is shameful for the censor board to license obscenity. These mentally disturbed individuals are ruining generations with their perversions. We will not allow this filth to spread in society; we are issuing a notice for action.”
Previously, a bench led by Kanungo had taken cognizance of a complaint alleging that the recently released song contains obscene and double-meaning lyrics, which are inappropriate for the general public, especially minors. The complaint stated that the song is widely available on television, social media, and digital platforms, potentially harming the mental health and moral environment of minors. It further alleged that the increasing trend of obscene lyrics in mainstream entertainment contributes to normalizing inappropriate expressions among young audiences.
The complainant urged the supreme human rights body to investigate the issue, obtain a report from the relevant certification authorities, and issue necessary guidelines or advisories to regulate such content and protect children’s rights. The NHRC issued a notice under Section 12 of the Human Rights Protection Act, 1993, indicating that if the allegations are true, they may signify a potential violation of minors’ rights.
Meanwhile, sources have informed news agencies that the producers are currently working on a revised version of the song with new lyrics, which is expected to be released soon, although the timeline remains unclear.
The song faced widespread criticism immediately after its release due to its provocative choreography and lyrics. Sung by Mangli, the lyrics were penned by Rakib Alam, and the music was composed, arranged, and produced by Arjun Janya.
Several prominent personalities have reacted to this controversy. Singer Armaan Malik described the song as a “new benchmark in lyrical decline,” while former cricketer Harbhajan Singh criticized the song and questioned the involvement of the actors.
