New Energy in India-Canada Friendship: PM Modi

New Delhi, March 3: During his visit to India, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. Following their meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, PM Modi expressed that the discussions brought new energy, mutual trust, and positivity to India-Canada relations.

In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi stated, “India is very happy to welcome PM Carney on his first visit to our country. This marks a significant milestone in India-Canada relations. PM Carney’s achievements, including those prior to becoming Prime Minister, are truly inspiring. I can confidently say that our first meeting has infused new energy, trust, and positivity into the India-Canada friendship. Today, our discussions focused on strengthening this relationship for the benefit of our peoples.”

On Monday, PM Modi and PM Carney engaged in bilateral talks, during which several MOUs were exchanged. PM Carney noted that the level of engagement between the governments of Canada and India over the past year has not been seen in over two decades. This is not just a renewal of relations; it is about enhancing a valuable partnership with new intentions, focus, and long-term vision. It represents a partnership between two confident nations that are charting their own path for the future.

Mark Carney emphasized the strategic energy partnership being initiated between India and Canada, highlighting the significant potential for increasing energy trade between the two countries. He stated, “We are deepening our cooperation in clean energy, including wind, solar, and hydrogen, as Canada has ambitious plans. We aim to double our grid by 2050, and India can be a major partner in this expansion. These agreements mark the beginning of a new and prosperous relationship that will provide opportunities for future generations and protect our planet.”

Earlier, the Canadian PM met with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. The two leaders discussed the partnership between India and Canada. Following their meeting, Jaishankar expressed appreciation for Carney’s commitment to building a forward-looking partnership.

The Ministry of External Affairs reported that PM Carney’s visit comes at a crucial juncture for India-Canada relations, which are normalizing. Both Prime Ministers agreed to advance a creative and balanced partnership based on mutual respect for each other’s concerns, strong people-to-people ties, and growing economic interdependence.
