New Delhi, May 7: Following the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections, a wave of accusations has surged in the state’s political landscape. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of promoting political violence and a “mafia culture.” BJP leaders have also expressed sharp criticism regarding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s refusal to resign.
Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal stated in a media interaction that West Bengal’s politics has entered a new phase. Despite the electoral defeat, Mamata Banerjee is not stepping down, which he claims is against democratic traditions. He emphasized that the Constitution has clear provisions for every situation, which must be adhered to. According to him, the people of West Bengal desired change, and the BJP has emerged victorious.
Meghwal described the BJP’s performance as historic, noting the party’s strong presence across the country, with the victory in West Bengal holding special significance. He remarked that the success of the BJP in West Bengal is a significant achievement in line with the vision and political expansion dreamt by Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee when he founded the Janata Party in 1951. He asserted that the people of Bengal have rejected the politics of fear and violence in favor of development and change.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala accused the TMC, stating that it has now come to symbolize “Total Mafia Culture.” He criticized Mamata Banerjee for not resigning after the electoral loss, labeling it as inappropriate. He alleged that TMC supporters were responsible for the murder of a close aide to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, describing it as a “premeditated contract killing.” He assured that once the BJP forms the government, the culprits will not be spared at any cost.
BJP leader Kiyaa Ghosh commented on the TMC’s “desperation and anger” following their loss of power. She claimed that the individual targeted by TMC was not actively involved in politics but had worked for Suvendu Adhikari during the Bhawanipur elections. She alleged that the attack was a result of Mamata Banerjee’s frustration over her defeat. The assailants reportedly stopped the vehicle and fired multiple shots, indicating that the murder was meticulously planned.
