New Delhi, April 18: The Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Vijaya Rahatkar, conducted a high-level review meeting on April 17 in Amravati to assess the progress of the ‘Partawada case.’ The meeting included key officials such as Police Commissioner Rakesh Ola, District Magistrate Ashish Yerekar, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Vishal Anand, and Additional Superintendent of Police (Achalpur) Dr. Shubham Kumar.
The investigation indicates that the case involves the exploitation of multiple victims, with objectionable content recorded and disseminated through digital platforms. This situation has raised serious concerns regarding the misuse of technology for exploitation, the scale of content distribution, and the safety and dignity of the victims.
Superintendent of Police Vishal Anand reported that eight suspects, including the main accused, have been arrested so far. The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Information Technology Act. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the matter. Digital devices, including mobile phones, laptops, and tablets, have been seized and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination.
Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar expressed concern over the severity of the allegations. She sought clarification on why stricter charges had not been applied at this stage. She also highlighted discrepancies between media reports and the current status of the recovered digital content, directing officials to expedite efforts to locate and retrieve all such materials.
The Chairperson emphasized the need to investigate whether any financial aspects were involved in the dissemination of this content, including potential commercial exploitation through digital means. She requested details regarding any possible connections between the accused and the locations where the alleged incidents occurred.
Rahatkar instructed officials to coordinate with Maharashtra Cyber to ensure the permanent removal of all objectionable content from online platforms and to prevent further harm. The NCW has directed the relevant authorities to expedite forensic investigations and submit progress reports to the commission every five days. Reiterating the commitment to ensuring justice and protecting the dignity of women and girls, she stated that strict and timely actions in this case would be closely monitored.
