NCP Announces Jayant Patel as Candidate for Umreth By-Election in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, March 16: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has officially nominated senior leader Jayant Patel ‘Boski’ as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Umreth assembly constituency, party leaders confirmed on Monday.

In a conversation, the state NCP president, Nikul Singh Tomar, stated that the state leadership had recommended Patel’s name for this seat and submitted it to the party’s central leadership for consideration.

Tomar further mentioned that Jayant Patel ‘Boski’ has been proposed as the candidate for the Umreth assembly seat. The state leadership has sent his name forward.

He added that the final decision will be made by the party’s parliamentary board, which is expected to announce its decision in the coming days. The ultimate decision rests with the parliamentary board, and a resolution is anticipated within two to three days.

Tomar described Patel as an experienced politician, emphasizing that the NCP intends to contest the elections under his guidance.

He noted that Patel has served as an MLA twice and has contested assembly elections five times. “He is a highly experienced leader, and we will also fight the elections under his mentorship,” Tomar said.

Additionally, Tomar indicated that the NCP leadership is simultaneously preparing for the upcoming local elections in the state. Potential candidates for these local body elections are also expected to be finalized soon.

He clarified that the state leadership has already settled on one name, but the final decision will be made by the parliamentary board and the election committee. Currently, this name is only proposed and not final.

Shriwasthav also clarified the NCP’s stance on alliances. He stated that while there is a national-level alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for Lok Sabha elections and in Maharashtra, there is no alliance for assembly elections or local body elections in other states.
