New Delhi, March 16: Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has made a significant statement regarding alliances in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. He emphasized that Congress should form an alliance in Bengal, stating that there is no alternative to a coalition based on accurate data.
When asked about Congress’s strategy in Bengal—whether to fight alone or in an alliance—Singhvi expressed, “In my personal opinion, an alliance is necessary in Bengal. However, there are various reasons that hinder such coalitions. This decision cannot be solely made by us or a few leaders; it is typically decided by three or four individuals within Congress.”
He further noted, “As the election date approaches, there is no option other than forming a coalition based on the right data. I reiterate that this is my personal view.”
In the same breath, Singhvi praised West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee. He stated, “If there is a leader in West Bengal who has captured the hearts and minds of the people, it is Mamata Banerjee. The essence of Bengal’s culture and heritage runs through her veins.”
Singhvi remarked on Banerjee’s energy, strength, direction, and momentum, asserting that she understands the pulse of Bengal. He believes that no other politician, especially when it comes to women, can match her political acumen.
Regarding the BJP’s election campaign, Singhvi shared his thoughts, saying, “I believe the BJP is merely creating an atmosphere. Everyone’s personal life eventually comes to an end. However, to think that the right time has come for the BJP is far from the truth.”
He added, “There will be noise and commotion, similar to what was created last time. At that time, an atmosphere was built suggesting that they (BJP) were winning, with figures like 202, 225, and 250 being thrown around. People began to feel that Bengal was sweeping for them, but the saying ‘dug a mountain and found a mouse’ proved true. Therefore, the people of Bengal should not panic; this is just the BJP’s tendency to sound the alarm.”
Singhvi also mentioned that there will be misuse of money in Bengal, and the BJP is significantly ahead of other parties in this regard. He asserted that the BJP has completely turned its foundational structure upside down.
