New Delhi: The Indian women’s hockey team, alongside the men’s team, has recently made significant strides on the international stage, earning praise and medals in various tournaments. Among the standout players contributing to this success is Navneet Kaur, whose role as a forward has been vital in elevating India’s position globally.
Navneet Kaur was born on 26 August 1995 in Shahabad, Haryana, a place renowned as a hub for women’s hockey in India. This environment inspired her early interest in the sport. Through dedicated training and consistent performance at the domestic level, Navneet secured her place in the national team and has been representing India since 2014.
Known for her speed, agility, and aggressive playing style, Navneet Kaur is considered a reliable forward. Over the last decade, she has played a crucial role in India’s rise in international hockey by scoring 62 goals in 201 matches for the national team.
Highlighting her career milestones, Navneet emerged as one of India’s top players after the team won the 9th Women’s Asia Cup in November 2017. She was instrumental in securing the silver medal at the 2018 Women’s Asian Champions Trophy. Navneet also represented India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Women’s Hockey World Cup held in London the same year.
Her contributions extended to the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang, where India won a historic silver medal. Navneet was part of the Indian squad that finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. In 2019, she helped India win the FIH Finals, and she was also a member of the team that claimed the bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. In May 2024, Navneet was appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian women’s hockey team.
