
Patna, March 16: The Bihar Agricultural University in Sabour has launched the National Farmers’ Fair 2026, a three-day event running from March 16 to 18. The central theme of this fair is “Enhancing Pulses and Oilseeds Production for Nutrition and Food Security.” The event has attracted a large number of farmers, agricultural scientists, agripreneurs, and individuals interested in the agricultural sector.
The chief guest inaugurated the seminar on “Digital Agriculture” by lighting the ceremonial lamp, marking the official start of the fair. The program commenced with a welcome speech that highlighted the university’s research and outreach efforts. Following this, female students from the university presented the university anthem and welcomed guests through cultural performances.
Syed Shah Nawaz Hussain, a spokesperson for the BJP and former Union Minister, was present as the chief guest. In his address, he praised the efforts of the university under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Dr. D.R. Singh, noting that the university is continuously working for the benefit of farmers. He emphasized that fairs like this provide farmers with insights into new technologies, improved varieties, and modern agricultural practices, which can enhance their income.
Anamika Singh, a member of the Legislative Council, served as a distinguished guest and inspired farmers with her vigorous speech. She highlighted the university’s achievements and stated that Bihar Agricultural University is emerging as a crucial center for farmers and agricultural development. She urged farmers to adopt new technologies and scientific methods to make their agriculture more profitable.
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Dr. D.R. Singh elaborated on the significance of pulse and oilseed crops. He stressed the necessity of increasing production to ensure nutritional and food security in the country and state. He mentioned that the university is currently running 18 projects related to pulse crops and 24 projects focused on oilseed crops.
Dr. Singh also noted the remarkable achievements in the field of linseed (Tisi), with the university having developed five advanced varieties. Approximately 22% of the total nuclear seeds produced in the country come from Bihar Agricultural University. He reiterated the university’s goal of increasing farmers’ income by providing them with advanced technology and better seeds.
This year’s National Farmers’ Fair features over 150 stalls showcasing advanced agricultural technologies, agricultural machinery, seeds, and agri-based products from various agricultural institutions, private companies, self-help groups, and entrepreneurs.
The fair’s main attractions include an entrepreneurship and flower exhibition and an innovation pavilion, where new technologies, startups, and innovations in agriculture are displayed. Additionally, farmers will receive training, consultations, and information on modern agricultural practices.
Over the three days, various technical sessions, training programs, discussions with agricultural experts, and demonstrations of advanced techniques will be held. The university administration hopes that this farmers’ fair will serve as a vital platform for knowledge, technology, and innovation, providing new direction for the overall development of agriculture in the state.
