Nashik Legislative Council Elections: Voting on June 18, Counting on June 22

Nashik, May 20: The countdown for the Nashik local authority constituency elections for the Maharashtra Legislative Council has officially begun. The Election Commission of India has announced the election schedule, leading to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct across the Nashik district. The administration will closely monitor electoral activities, ensuring strict compliance with the rules.

District Collector and Election Officer Ayush Prasad stated that the election process will proceed as per the established timeline. The election notification will be issued on May 25, allowing candidates to file their nomination papers until June 1. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on June 2, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until June 4. Voting is scheduled for June 18, from 8 AM to 4 PM, with the counting of votes set for June 22.

Prasad mentioned that the nomination process will be conducted at the District Collector’s office in Nashik. Candidates can submit their nomination papers between 11 AM and 3 PM.

The administration clarified that candidates must be registered in any assembly electoral roll in Maharashtra to be eligible to contest. Voters will include elected members from the Nashik District Council, Malegaon Municipal Corporation, Deolali Cantonment Board, and various municipal councils and panchayats in the district.

A total of nine polling stations will be established across the district, located in Nashik, Dindori, Igatpuri, Niphad, Yeola, Malegaon, Chandwad, Kalwan, and Baglan tehsil offices.

Ayush Prasad confirmed that the election will utilize the ballot paper system instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs). Voters will rank their preferred candidates in order. To ensure a fair and transparent election process, independent election observers will also be appointed.

The administration has issued a stern warning regarding the Model Code of Conduct. There will be a complete ban on placing posters, banners, flags, or election symbols on public or private properties without permission. Legal action will be taken against those who violate these rules.
