Namo Bharat Launches Wings of Aspirations Campaign to Enhance Womens Safety

New Delhi, March 24: The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has initiated a significant campaign called ‘Wings of Aspirations’ aimed at promoting women’s safety and gender sensitivity.

The campaign was launched on Tuesday, March 24, by NCRTC Managing Director Shalabh Goyal at the Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station. This initiative is being operated under the Government of India’s ‘Nirbhaya Fund.’ The event was attended by Nirbhaya’s parents, Asha Devi and Badri Nath Singh, senior journalist and motivational speaker Richa Anirudh, NCRTC Director (Finance) Namita Mehrotra, along with several senior officials and representatives from stakeholder organizations.

The primary goal of this campaign is to raise awareness about women’s safety, sensitizing passengers, and ensuring a secure travel environment on Namo Bharat trains. During the program, a special video was presented showcasing the proposed initiatives under the campaign. These include CCTV surveillance in station premises, adequate lighting, an SOS feature in the ‘Namo Bharat Connect’ mobile app, and a women’s safety helpline.

Shalabh Goyal emphasized that providing every passenger with a safe and respectful environment is their top priority. He mentioned that this campaign will run for the next five years, aiming not only to enhance facilities but also to foster positive changes in societal attitudes and behaviors.

Asha Devi, Nirbhaya’s mother, noted that there are positive changes regarding women’s safety today, and projects like Namo Bharat are commendable steps in this direction. Richa Anirudh shared her experiences, stating that travel has become safer for women, but it requires everyone in society to take responsibility.

During the event, two short films produced by NCRTC, focusing on women’s empowerment and gender sensitivity, were premiered. Additionally, a ‘Gratitude Wall’ was inaugurated, where people expressed their appreciation for women who have played significant roles in their lives. The campaign will also include street plays, workshops, and community programs.

Posters and banners will be displayed in trains and stations to raise awareness among passengers. NCRTC believes that a safe and inclusive public transport system can only be achieved through awareness and collective responsibility. The ‘Wings of Aspirations’ campaign reflects NCRTC’s commitment to making the Namo Bharat network safe, respectful, and reliable for women.
