Kohima, March 20: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from Nagaland achieved a remarkable feat by successfully summiting Mount Saramati, the highest peak in the state at 3,840 meters. The expedition commenced at 6:30 AM on Thursday, with the team demonstrating exceptional patience, discipline, and teamwork throughout the climb.
This thrilling adventure involved a total of 47 members, including two officers, three non-commissioned officers (NCOs), four associate NCC officers (ANOs)—two of whom were women—and 38 cadets (20 from the senior wing and 18 from the senior division). The team exhibited extraordinary endurance while overcoming challenging terrains, steep ascents and descents, dense forests, and adverse weather conditions.
Mount Saramati, located on the border of Nagaland and Manipur, is considered one of the tallest peaks in Northeast India. The cadets’ successful climb is a testament to the high-level training, physical fitness, and mental resilience provided by the NCC. Throughout the expedition, the team supported one another, maintained coordination, and achieved their goal while avoiding any accidents.
An NCC officer stated that this expedition was organized to foster a spirit of adventure among cadets, along with promoting national pride, leadership skills, and character building. The ascent of Mount Saramati marks a significant milestone for the NCC, as it tests both physical and mental strength.
In congratulating the team, the Ministry of Defence’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) remarked that the achievement of “Team Saramati” would be recorded in golden letters in the regional history of the NCC. He emphasized that this accomplishment would inspire thousands of youth who aspire to join the NCC and learn about service to the nation, discipline, and leadership.
The climb of Mount Saramati elevates the activities of the NCC in Northeast India. This expedition was part of the NCC’s efforts to promote environmental conservation, adventurous sports, and instill a sense of patriotism among the youth. The cadets made their achievement even more memorable by hoisting the national flag and waving the NCC flag at the summit.
