Mumbai, May 4: In a thrilling encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the Mumbai Indians (MI) chased down a massive target to secure a stunning 6-wicket victory against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). This win keeps MI’s playoff hopes alive.

Currently, the Mumbai Indians sit ninth in the points table with 3 wins out of 10 matches, while the Lucknow Super Giants languish at the bottom, having lost 7 out of 9 games.

Batting first after losing the toss at Wankhede Stadium, LSG posted a formidable score of 228 runs, losing 5 wickets in the process. The opening pair of Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh provided a solid start, adding 29 runs in just 2.3 overs.

Josh was dismissed for 13 runs off 5 balls, but Marsh, alongside Nicholas Pooran, built a robust partnership of 94 runs for the second wicket, bringing the score to 123. Pooran scored a blistering 63 runs off 21 balls, hitting 8 sixes and 1 four, while Marsh contributed 44 runs off 25 balls, including 3 sixes and 4 fours.

Aiden Markram then took charge, forming a partnership of 23 runs with captain Rishabh Pant (15) and an unbeaten 68 runs off 47 balls with Himat Singh. Markram finished with 31 runs not out, while Himat Singh scored 40 not out. Corbin Bosch was the standout bowler for MI, taking 2 wickets, while AM Gajanfar, Will Jacks, and Raghu Sharma each claimed 1 wicket.

In response, the Mumbai Indians chased down the target in just 18.4 overs. Rohit Sharma, returning to the field after a long absence, partnered with Ryan Rickelton for a powerful opening stand, scoring 143 runs in 10.5 overs.

Rickelton scored 83 runs off 32 balls, hitting 8 sixes and 6 fours before being dismissed. Rohit followed with a stellar performance, scoring 84 runs off 44 balls, which included 7 sixes and 6 fours.

Tilak Varma contributed 11 runs, while Suryakumar Yadav, filling in for the absent Hardik Pandya, added 12 runs. MI lost their fourth wicket at 213 runs in 17.4 overs, but Naman Dheer (not out 23) and Will Jacks (not out 10) guided the team to victory with 8 balls to spare. Manimaran Siddharth took 2 wickets for LSG, while Mohammad Shami and Mohsin Khan each claimed 1 wicket.
