Mumbai Indians Appoint Jubin Bharucha as Director of High Performance

Mumbai, August 22: Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have appointed former first-class cricketer Jubin Bharucha as the ‘Director of High Performance’ for their global ecosystem. This announcement was made on Saturday.

Before joining MI, Bharucha held the same position at Rajasthan Royals, where he served from November 2022 until the end of IPL 2025.

In a statement, the franchise said, “Jubin Bharucha is joining Mumbai Indians as the Director of Performance. He will collaborate with the current multidisciplinary leadership group in all performance-related areas within the MI ecosystem. Jubin will integrate with the existing support staff to further enhance the established methods of consistent performance development at Mumbai Indians.”

As a right-handed batsman, Bharucha played for both Mumbai and Surrey in the 1990s. Before transitioning to coaching, he participated in 17 first-class and 11 List A matches. His long association with Rajasthan Royals began in the inaugural IPL season in 2008, where he worked as team director until 2015.

He then served as the technical director for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) from 2016 to 2017. Following that, he returned to Rajasthan Royals as the Director of Cricket Operations and later became the Director of High Performance.

At Rajasthan Royals, Bharucha played a crucial role in nurturing the careers of several star Indian players, including Sanju Samson (whom he mentored personally), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, and Vaibhav Suryaanshi, at the high-performance center in Talegaon.

Regarding his new role at MI, a source revealed that Bharucha’s responsibilities will be extensive, as the franchise plans significant changes following their failure to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs.

The source stated, “Bharucha will focus on enhancing MI’s scouting process and improving year-round player development programs for both men’s and women’s setups, including skill enhancement during the off-season. Additionally, he will expand and strengthen MI’s existing talent scouting network.”
