Sangrur, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in Sangrur have revealed significant details regarding Jagga Singh, a local resident who recently attempted suicide. On Monday, SSP Ravjot Kaur Grewal disclosed that Singh is a repeat offender with nine FIRs registered against him, including a serious charge of rape.
Singh, a resident of Namol village, reportedly ingested poison outside the district commissioner’s office. He is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. According to SSP Grewal, Singh consumed the poison around 4 PM on Sunday.
The police report indicates that Singh has been convicted in four of the nine FIRs, which involve charges related to excise and NDPS offenses. The remaining four cases are still pending in court, and the rape allegation adds to his troubling legal history.
On September 12, a video surfaced on social media in which Singh threatened police action, claiming he would take his own life if no steps were taken regarding his cases. SSP Grewal emphasized that threatening suicide to coerce government officials is a criminal offense under Section 226 of the BNS Act. A case was registered on this matter on the same day.
The local panchayat has suggested that Singh is being politically manipulated, alleging he intimidates anyone attempting to combat drug-related issues in the village. The facts surrounding this situation are currently under investigation.
Singh’s wife, Manpreet Kaur, has voiced concerns about the distress her family has faced since the incident. She reported that Singh’s condition was critical overnight but has since shown some improvement.
Kaur accused individuals of verbally and physically assaulting her family. She demands police action against those responsible. Furthermore, she claimed that a video documenting the incident was edited, cutting out crucial parts. Kaur also mentioned discussions with the village sarpanch, during which she alleged threats were made against her family regarding further legal actions.
Kaur clarified that her involvement in discussions was limited, as the focus was primarily on her husband’s situation. She reiterated the family’s call for police intervention regarding the alleged assault and mistreatment.
