Shimla, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : The political landscape in Himachal Pradesh intensified following the inauguration of the new Chief Minister‘s office. Chief Minister Sukhu responded firmly to opposition allegations of wasteful spending, asserting that the new office is not a personal residence but a vital governmental facility.
Speaking to reporters in Shimla, Sukhu stated, “The opposition has nothing substantial to say. They have indulged in extravagance by constructing buildings worth 1,000 crores. I have merely established the Chief Minister’s office. In 15 to 20 years, if another opposition leader takes office, they too will work from this very office.”
Sukhu emphasized that the new office represents an institutional space rather than a personal abode. He compared the office to other democratic institutions such as the judiciary and executive, stating, “There were times when it was claimed that the DC office was better than ours. This is an institutional office. The opposition seems to lack understanding of the situation; only God knows the path they are on.”
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the officials and staff who contributed to the rapid construction of the new office. He noted that the previous office lacked sufficient space for staff. “When one officer pointed out that there was not enough room for everyone, we decided to build the new office,” he explained.
The new building accommodates not just the Chief Minister’s office but also the Principal Secretary, Additional Private Secretary, and their staff. Additionally, it features separate offices for meeting legislators and the public, along with parking for 40 vehicles.
Sukhu reiterated the significance of establishing a facility that serves the institution, stating, “This is a place where the Chief Minister comes to discuss important matters. It was essential to create this institution for the next 50 years.”
Addressing a public interest petition filed regarding the new office, Sukhu acknowledged that filing such petitions is a democratic right. He affirmed that citizens have the right to approach the courts, officials, cabinet members, and the Chief Minister.
When questioned about the cabinet expansion, Sukhu confirmed that it will occur soon, with changes to ministerial departments also anticipated.
