Modi Meets Denmarks PM in Oslo to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Oslo, May 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Oslo on Tuesday. The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.

The meeting included several senior officials, such as Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and Secretary (West) C.B. George from the Ministry of External Affairs.

Previously, Modi and Frederiksen had a phone conversation in September last year, where they reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the ‘Green Strategic Partnership.’

On the same day, Modi also met with Iceland’s Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir and held discussions with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo ahead of the third India-Nordic Summit.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this summit aims to build on the achievements of previous meetings held in Stockholm in 2018 and Copenhagen in 2022. The focus is on strengthening ties between India and Nordic countries in areas such as technology, innovation, green energy, sustainable development, blue economy, defense, space, and the Arctic.

Modi arrived in Norway as part of his five-nation tour, where he was welcomed at the airport by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

On Monday, the two prime ministers engaged in extensive discussions covering trade, investment, green energy, blue and circular economies, education, science and technology, artificial intelligence, space, and Arctic cooperation.

Both countries agreed to advance India-Norway relations as a “Green Strategic Partnership.” They also discussed new opportunities for investment, technical cooperation, and job creation under the India-EFTA trade agreement.

Modi participated in the India-Norway Business and Research Summit in Oslo, highlighting the growing opportunities for economic collaboration. He also met with King Harald V of Norway at the Royal Palace, where he was honored with Norway’s highest civilian award, the “Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit.”
