Mumbai, February 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron inaugurated the India-France Innovation Forum 2026 in Mumbai. During the event, PM Modi emphasized that two major innovation hubs are coming together. He stated, “When we talk about India and France, our relationship is built on innovation, trust, and shared values.”
He announced that President Macron and he have decided to celebrate 2026 as the India-France Year of Innovation. This initiative represents not just a celebration but a shared commitment.
PM Modi highlighted India’s long history of innovation across various fields such as mathematics, medicine, metallurgy, and architecture, contributing to human welfare. He noted that even in the 21st century, India’s youth are rapidly advancing on the path of “Innovation for Global Good.” From India’s vibrant startup ecosystem to world-class research laboratories, a new spirit of optimism is emerging.
He pointed out that thanks to the Startup India initiative, the country has become the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world within just a decade. In 2014, India had only four unicorn companies, but today that number has surged to over 120.
PM Modi remarked that the relationship between India and France is truly unique. France is one of India’s oldest strategic partners, and under President Macron’s leadership, this partnership has gained unprecedented depth and dynamism. Built on mutual trust and a shared vision, the two nations are elevating their relationship to a special global strategic partnership level. This collaboration transcends mere strategy; in these turbulent times, it stands as a commitment to global stability and progress.
He expressed pride in the fact that India and France will jointly produce the world’s only helicopter capable of flying to the heights of Mount Everest, which will be manufactured in India and exported worldwide.
