Lucknow, July 28: Shia cleric Maulana Saif Abbas has responded to BJP leader Sangeet Som’s comments regarding Jawahar University and AIMIM leader Waris Pathan’s statement on “Vande Mataram.” He emphasized that associating any educational institution with terrorism is not only unfortunate but also reflects an anti-education mindset. Such statements should be condemned by all sections of society.
In an interview, Maulana Saif Abbas stated that educational institutions are often referred to as temples of learning, and linking them to terrorism is deeply regrettable and condemnable. He noted that these institutions serve to impart knowledge to society, and such remarks hurt the sentiments of students. This kind of thinking is anti-education. It is wrong to associate any university or educational institution with terrorism, as it causes mental distress to the students studying there.
He further asserted that if anyone believes an institution is linked to terrorism, it is the responsibility of the government and security agencies to investigate. Maulana questioned the government, asking how many terrorists have been apprehended from such institutions if claims of their connections to terrorism are made. He urged that the government and intelligence agencies must take action and hold accountable those who make such statements.
Regarding AIMIM leader Waris Pathan’s comments on “Vande Mataram,” Maulana stated that there is an attempt to mislead people by politicizing the issue. He mentioned that if “Vande Mataram” is mandatory at a particular venue or event according to regulations set by Parliament, it should be followed. This topic should not be turned into an unnecessary controversy.
Maulana Saif Abbas expressed confidence that the youth of the country now wish to rise above such political disputes and focus on national development and progress. Citing recent student movements, he noted that young people have signaled their commitment to advancing the country and bringing about positive change. Today’s youth prioritize issues like education, employment, and national development, and society must foster a positive environment around these topics.
