Ministry of External Affairs Denies Fertilizer Plant Shutdown and Food Crisis Claims

New Delhi, March 30: The Ministry of External Affairs has refuted claims circulating on social media regarding the shutdown of fertilizer production units due to a shortage of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) in the country. These claims suggested a looming food crisis in the upcoming season. The ministry labeled these assertions as completely “fake” and baseless.

In a statement on its official social media handle, the ministry warned, “Beware of such false and misleading claims and posts.” They also shared images of the misleading posts that claimed there would be a severe food crisis by the next wheat crop season (March) and displayed a map indicating the shutdown of ammonia and urea plants in India.

The viral map marked several locations, alleging that fertilizer plants in South Asia would close due to disrupted LNG supply. However, the ministry dismissed these claims outright, stating that no such situation exists.

Previously, the ministry had also denied rumors regarding the evacuation of Indians amid ongoing tensions in the Gulf region. An Instagram post had claimed that the government requested Indian citizens to register on a ‘help’ portal for evacuation.

The ministry clarified that this claim is misleading. According to a spokesperson, “Indian embassies and the Ministry of External Affairs in the West Asia region have launched helplines to assist people, not to issue any evacuation directives.”

Additionally, the ministry has rejected several other false news stories, including allegations of an Iran funding scandal in Jammu and Kashmir and claims that an Indian oil tanker had to pay in Chinese currency ‘Yuan’ to pass through the Hormuz Strait.

The Ministry of External Affairs also cautioned the public to be vigilant against misleading news spreading on social media and to rely only on official sources.
