Skoda is preparing to shake up India’s SUV market once again — this time with a focus on efficiency and affordability. The upcoming Skoda Kylaq CNG promises to deliver a compelling blend of mileage, performance, and premium features, targeting Indian buyers increasingly leaning toward cleaner fuel options.

A Bold Step into India’s Growing CNG Market

With fuel prices on the rise, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is becoming a favored alternative for cost-conscious drivers. Recognizing this shift, Skoda is gearing up to enter the CNG space with the Kylaq — positioning itself to capture the growing demand for budget-friendly, eco-conscious SUVs.

By bringing CNG technology to one of its most anticipated models, Skoda aims to merge premium features with lower running costs — a combination many Indian consumers are actively seeking.

Confirmation from Skoda India

In a recent interview, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director of Skoda India, confirmed that the Kylaq CNG is no longer a rumor. The SUV is currently in advanced development stages, with Skoda engineers testing the compatibility of turbo-petrol engines with CNG systems.

Once the performance and reliability benchmarks are met, Skoda plans to officially unveil the Kylaq CNG to the Indian market.

Engine and Transmission: What to Expect

The Skoda Kylaq CNG is expected to feature the same 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine used in the standard Kylaq variant:

  • Power Output: 116 PS

  • Torque: 178 Nm

While CNG variants generally experience a modest dip in outright performance, they offer significant gains in fuel efficiency. The Kylaq CNG is likely to be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, keeping it affordable while maintaining Skoda’s signature driving dynamics.

Filling a Unique Segment

If launched as expected, the Kylaq CNG would be India’s second turbo-petrol CNG SUV, following the Tata Nexon CNG. It will target urban buyers looking for a balance of performance and mileage — those who want the brand and driving experience of a premium SUV but with lower running costs.

By offering a petrol-CNG option, Skoda also appeals to buyers who want to steer clear of diesel engines or aren’t ready to switch to electric vehicles.

Global CNG Experience: A Proven Advantage

Skoda’s global portfolio already includes several CNG-powered models — such as the Octavia, Scala, and Citigo — giving the brand an edge in delivering refined CNG performance to the Indian market.

This international experience will likely translate into a well-engineered and efficient CNG SUV, ready to take on India’s increasingly competitive premium compact segment.

Expected Launch Timeline

While Skoda has not confirmed an official launch date, industry insiders suggest the Kylaq CNG could arrive by late 2025 or early 2026.

If successful, this launch could open the door for more CNG offerings in the premium SUV segment, providing Indian consumers with more options than ever before.

Stay tuned — mileage may soon meet power in Skoda’s next big SUV debut.
