Meeting Between Minister Jitendra Singh and Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma

New Delhi, March 21: Union Minister Jitendra Singh met with Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma, the head of the Northern Command of the Indian Army, in a courtesy visit. During this meeting, they exchanged views on various important issues, which the minister described as a “rich and fruitful discussion.”

Minister Jitendra Singh shared this information via the social media platform X. In his post, he stated, “The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, Udhampur, Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma, paid a courtesy visit. A meaningful exchange of ideas took place.”

Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma took charge as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command on May 1, 2025, succeeding Lieutenant General M.V. Suchindra Kumar. With nearly 30 years of experience, Sharma is a seasoned infantry officer who has held several significant responsibilities in the army.

Previously, he served in key positions such as Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) and Director General of Military Operations (DGMO). He has also contributed as the Director General of Information Warfare.

Lieutenant General Sharma possesses extensive experience in various operational areas. He has played a crucial role in significant operations, including Operation Pawan, Operation Meghdoot in Siachen, Operation Rakshak, and Operation Parakram, showcasing his military capability and experience.

In terms of education, he has a strong background, being an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun, and the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington.

Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma was commissioned into the Madras Regiment in December 1987. Throughout his long and successful military career, he has served the nation in various important capacities.
