Mayawati Welcomes Halt on Demolition of Jauhar University Buildings, Advocates for Regularization of Educational Institutions

Lucknow, July 28: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati has welcomed the decision to halt the demolition of 38 educational buildings at Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur. She described this move as a just decision.

Mayawati emphasized that instead of demolition, the government should adopt a policy of regularization for other educational institutions in the state that may have compliance issues with construction regulations. This approach would ensure that the futures of students receiving education at these institutions are not adversely affected.

In a post on the social media platform X, Mayawati stated that the Rampur Development Authority (RDA) had initiated demolition proceedings against the university’s buildings due to the absence of approved blueprints. She praised the decision to halt these actions, which were based on the family trust of Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan, who established the university in honor of freedom fighter Mohammad Ali Jauhar.

She further noted that if other educational institutions across Uttar Pradesh are also failing to comply with government regulations in their construction, the government should take necessary actions to regularize them instead of resorting to demolition. This would prevent any negative impact on the lives of students pursuing their education. Mayawati expressed hope that the government would consider the BSP’s public-interest suggestion sympathetically.

It is noteworthy that the RDA had issued a demolition order for 38 out of 40 buildings at Jauhar University, citing their construction without approved plans. This order was issued by RDA Vice Chairman and Rampur District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi. In response, the university management and the Jauhar Trust filed an appeal in the court of RDA Chairman and Moradabad Division Commissioner Anjaney Kumar Singh.

During the hearing of the appeal, the Commissioner placed a stay on the demolition proceedings until the next hearing and subsequent orders. Additionally, the university management and Jauhar Trust have also filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court regarding this matter.
