Mumbai, March 29: The digital entertainment landscape is rapidly evolving, with web series gaining immense popularity. Audiences are increasingly drawn to diverse narratives, especially those rooted in historical contexts. In this vein, Prime Video is set to launch a compelling new series titled “Matka King,” with its release date now officially announced.

Prime Video has confirmed that “Matka King” will premiere globally on April 17. The series will be available for streaming in India and across 240 countries and territories.

The storyline of “Matka King” is set in 1960s Bombay, a transformative era for the city marked by significant societal changes. During this time, a cotton trader introduces a new gambling system called ‘Matka.’ Initially, it caters to the wealthy elite but gradually gains popularity among the general public, evolving into a vast network.

The lead character, Brij Bhatti, is portrayed by Vijay Varma. Brij is a man striving to carve out his identity and earn respect in a changing world. His ambitions and decisions lead him down a path where he gains power, wealth, and recognition, but also faces numerous challenges and dangers. This struggle adds depth and intrigue to the series.

In addition to Vijay Varma, the cast features Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat, and Gulshan Grover in prominent roles. Other notable actors include Vineet Kumar Singh, Bharat Jadhav, Girish Kulkarni, Jamie Lever, Kishore Kadam, and Cyrus Sahukar.

Directed by Nagraj Manjule, the series is penned by Abhay Koranne, with Siddharth Roy Kapur serving as the producer.

Siddharth Roy Kapur emphasized that the series stands out due to its unique theme and grand scale. While the story is rooted in a specific time and place, the emotions and struggles depicted will resonate with audiences universally.
