Shimla, April 23: The ‘Jan Aakrosh Mahila Padayatra’ organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Women’s Wing witnessed an impressive turnout of women. This rally emerged as a powerful demonstration of women’s strength, rights, and participation in governance.
The event was chaired by Daisy Thakur, the state president of the women’s wing. Notable attendees included state BJP president Rajeev Bindal, state in-charge Shrikant Sharma, opposition leader Jairam Thakur, and co-in-charge Sanjay Tandon.
During her address, Payal Vaidya launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, stating that the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Abhiyan’ was a historic step towards providing 33% reservation for women from the Panchayat to Parliament. She accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of calling a special session of Parliament for this purpose, which was thwarted by Congress and its allies for political reasons.
Questioning Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s slogans, she remarked that when the real fight for women’s rights arose, Congress retreated, revealing the disparity between their words and actions.
Daisy Thakur labeled the halt of this bill as “a black day in democratic history,” accusing Congress of viewing women merely as a vote bank. She emphasized that this issue transcends politics and is tied to the dignity of millions of women.
State vice president Rashmi Dhar Sood alleged that Congress, the Samajwadi Party, and the Trinamool Congress collectively undermined women’s aspirations, framing it as a matter of social justice.
MLA Reena Kashyap accused the state government of misusing administrative machinery to obstruct the march. She claimed that buses carrying women from Solan and nearby areas were deliberately stopped and diverted. Despite these efforts, the significant participation of women rendered these attempts futile.
State president Rajeev Bindal asserted that by blocking the women’s reservation bill, Congress betrayed millions of women across the country. He claimed that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, women have been empowered economically, socially, and educationally over the past decade, and increasing their participation in governance is the next step.
