Marnus Labuschagne Appointed Captain of Hyderabad Kingsmen in PSL

New Delhi, March 18: Marnus Labuschagne has been appointed as the captain of the Hyderabad Kingsmen franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He is the third Australian player to take on this role in the PSL this year, following David Warner with Karachi Kings and Ashton Turner with Multan Sultans.

Labuschagne is not a regular player in the T20 circuit, having played only one T20 match for Australia. Primarily a top-order batsman, he can also bowl off-spin or medium pace. In his T20 career, he has taken 40 wickets across 59 matches.

The right-handed batsman has participated in 31 Big Bash League matches, scoring 643 runs at an average of 22.96 and taking 13 wickets. In the Vitality Blast, he played 27 matches, accumulating 736 runs at an average of 32, along with 27 wickets.

The Hyderabad Kingsmen are one of two new teams joining the Pakistan Super League. The team lacked players with captaincy experience, making it challenging to select a leader. While notable names like Glenn Maxwell, Kusal Perera, and Saeem Ayub are part of the squad, Labuschagne was ultimately chosen to lead the team.

He will work alongside his fellow Australian, Jason Gillespie, who has been appointed as the head coach of the franchise. Gillespie previously served as the head coach for the Pakistan national team in Test cricket. Grant Bradburn has been named the team’s fielding coach.

The 2026 Pakistan Super League will kick off on March 26, with the Hyderabad Kingsmen facing Lahore Qalandars. Following that, they will compete against Quetta Gladiators on March 29, Multan Sultans on April 1, Peshawar Zalmi on April 8, and Karachi Kings on April 11. The final of the league is scheduled to take place in Lahore on May 3.
