New Chandigarh, 11 December. South Africa levelled the five-match T20 series against India 1-1 by winning the second match at Mullapur by 51 runs. South African captain Aiden Markram praised opener Quinton de Kock and acknowledged the quality of the pitch at Maharaj Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.

In the match played on Thursday, South Africa batted first and scored 213 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. Quinton de Kock scored 90 runs off 46 balls, hitting seven sixes and five fours. Alongside Markram, de Kock shared an 83-run partnership for the second wicket in 47 balls.

Chasing a big total, the Indian team was bowled out for 162 runs in 19.1 overs. Tilak Verma top-scored for India with 62 runs off 34 balls but could not prevent the defeat.

After drawing the series level, South African captain Markram said, โ€œThe match was fantastic. It started well with a special innings from Quinton de Kock and some excellent contributions. Our bowlers are moving in the right direction. Our fielding was also good in this game. The pitch here was good. There were chances for bowlers. If the batsmen settled, they could have put pressure on the bowlers. The support for India here was also great.โ€

Markram added, โ€œAs a player, you want to get consistent opportunities. The priority is to select the best team for the World Cup. Until the SA20 ends, we need to give all players enough game time. You come ahead and do whatever is needed. I have batted in the middle order. You are never bigger than the team. This is a good habit. We can bat well during the innings. However, we will consider that.โ€

The third T20 match between India and South Africa will be played at Dharamshala on 14 December, followed by the final two matches in Lucknow and Ahmedabad on 17 and 19 December respectively.
