Gayaquard Reflects on Missed Catch as CSK Faces Third Straight Loss in IPL 2026

Bengaluru, April 6: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered their third consecutive defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. On Sunday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured a 43-run victory over CSK. Captain Ruturaj Gayaquard believes that if the team had taken Virat Kohli’s early catch, the match might have turned in their favor.

In the match held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB batted first and scored 250 runs for the loss of three wickets. In response, CSK was bowled out for just 207 runs in 19.4 overs.

Following the hat-trick of losses, Gayaquard stated, “Honestly, I was surprised myself. Sarfaraz, Prashant Veer, Jamie Overton, and to some extent, Shivam Dube fought brilliantly. I could have contributed better in the top order; perhaps we could have chased down the target.”

Kohli scored 28 runs off 18 balls, forming a partnership of 37 runs with Phil Salt. However, CSK missed a crucial catch. Khaleel Ahmed bowled the third over of the innings. Kohli attempted a big hit on the third ball, but the ball soared high. Shivam Dube, positioned at mid-on, was under it. The catch was straightforward, yet it slipped through his hands.

Regarding the missed opportunities in the field, Gayaquard commented, “If we had taken Kohli’s early catch, the match might have swung in our favor. Up until the 13th or 14th over, the game was in our hands, but the momentum shifted from there.”

On the other hand, RCB’s victorious captain Rajat Patidar expressed his delight, saying, “It feels great to win the match. When you play good cricket, there’s a unique satisfaction in the team. Initially, the ball was coming onto the bat slowly, but the way Phil (Salt) and Virat (Kohli) played was fantastic. After that, the team changed the course of the game; I enjoyed the sixes from the dugout and non-striker’s end.”

He added, “My mindset was clear; as long as I’m at the crease, I try to put pressure on the bowler. I consider myself fortunate to have the full support of the team, which allowed me to play freely. The team atmosphere is fantastic right now; all players are in a good mindset and excited for the next match.”

Tim David, who scored an unbeaten 70 runs off 25 balls, received praise from the captain, who said, “He is an expert and one of the best finishers in the world. He performed brilliantly last year as well. He is very consistent, and his ability to finish games is exceptional. Among all the finishers I’ve seen, he ranks at the top.”
