March Bank Holidays and Stock Market Closures: Complete List Revealed

New Delhi, February 27: February is coming to a close, and March 2026 is just around the corner. If you plan to complete any important banking tasks in March, be sure to check the holiday schedule first. Visiting a bank branch on a holiday could delay your essential work.

According to the official holiday list from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will remain closed for a total of 18 days across various states in March 2026. This includes weekly holidays, the second and fourth Saturdays, and various regional festivals.

March begins on the 1st (Sunday), which is a nationwide weekly holiday. On March 2 (Monday), banks will be closed in Uttar Pradesh for Holika Dahan. On March 3 (Tuesday), banking services will be unavailable in approximately 15 states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Punjab, due to Holi. Some states and cities will also observe a holiday on the second day of Holi, March 4 (Wednesday).

Following this, March 8 (Sunday) will again be a weekly holiday. On March 13 (Friday), banks in Mizoram will be closed for the Chapchar Kut festival. The second Saturday on March 14 and Sunday on March 15 will see banks closed nationwide.

On March 17 (Tuesday), banks in Jammu and Srinagar will be closed for Shab-e-Qadr. March 19 (Thursday) will see a holiday in 11 states, including Maharashtra, for Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, and the start of Navratri. Banks will also be closed nationwide on March 20 (Friday) for Eid-ul-Fitr, and on March 21 (Saturday) for Ramadan Eid and Sarhul.

March 22 (Sunday) will be another weekly holiday. On March 26 (Thursday), banks will be closed for Sri Ram Navami, and some states will observe a holiday on March 27 (Friday) for Dashami following Ram Navami. The fourth Saturday on March 28 and Sunday on March 29 will also see banks closed across the country. Finally, on March 31 (Tuesday), banks will be closed in approximately 15 states for Sri Mahavir Jayanti.

While branches will be closed, customers need not worry. Online banking, mobile banking, and ATM services will continue to operate normally. You can still conduct transactions, fund transfers, and access other digital services through these channels.

In addition to bank holidays, the Indian stock market will also be closed for a total of 12 days in March. Trading will not occur on March 3 (Holi), March 26 (Sri Ram Navami), and March 31 (Sri Mahavir Jayanti). Additionally, trading will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays, totaling 9 days of inactivity.

Therefore, when planning any essential banking or stock market activities in March, be sure to check the holiday list to ensure your tasks are completed on time and without hassle.
