Payal Rohatgi Labels Imran Khan as Unemployed Actor Amid Protests

Actress Payal Rohatgi criticizes Imran Khan for his involvement in protests, calling him an unemployed actor without political understanding.

Mumbai, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : Actress Payal Rohatgi has launched a sharp critique of fellow actor Imran Khan, who recently participated in protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Rohatgi, who has been absent from the screen for some time, referred to Khan as an “unemployed actor” and questioned his understanding of politics.

Khan was detained by police during the protests held at August Kranti Maidan on October 10. It was later revealed that he is not an Indian citizen but holds Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI). In a conversation, Rohatgi expressed her views, stating, “He should know better than to engage in such foolish acts. He is not an Indian citizen; he is an American citizen. You live and work in India, and you’ve even gotten married here, but perhaps you didn’t get the right visa, or maybe you’ve divorced or something.”

She further criticized Khan’s motives for attending the protests, suggesting that many unemployed actors join such events for publicity, as they attract media coverage.

Earlier in the day, reports surfaced that Khan had been ordered by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to leave India by October 28. This directive followed allegations that he had unlawfully participated in the protests. The FRRO stated that his involvement violated the Foreigners Act, given his OCI status.

The notice for Khan to leave the country was issued shortly after his participation in the protests, which called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He has been informed of actions taken against him under sections 7 and 29 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act. Khan was detained by police during the protests on October 10.
