Narayanpur, April 1: In a significant achievement for anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh, a 26-year-old armed Maoist surrendered to authorities on Tuesday. The individual, identified as Bijlu Mandavi, had a bounty of ₹1 lakh on his head and was associated with the technical department of the banned CPI (Maoist) in the northwestern sub-regional bureau. He hails from the Tushwal Panchayat, which falls under the Barsur police station in Bijapur district. In the presence of Superintendent of Police Robinson Gudiya, Mandavi laid down his arms and renounced violence.
Mandavi’s decision to return to mainstream society aligns with the state government’s key initiative, ‘Puna Margam: Rehabilitation to Revitalization.’ A joint team of security forces and Narayanpur police has recovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition from Maoist hideouts located in dense forests.
In recent months, there has been a surge in the number of Naxal surrenders in Chhattisgarh, particularly in Narayanpur, Bijapur, and Sukma districts. Joint operations by the District Reserve Guard, CRPF, and state police have instilled fear among the Maoists. SP Robinson Gudiya praised Mandavi’s courageous step and assured him of full administrative support for his rehabilitation.
He also appealed to other Maoist cadres to follow suit, emphasizing that the government is committed to providing a safe and dignified life for those who choose peace over violence.
On March 30, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated in the House that the days of Maoist and Naxal violence are over. He remarked that after the government change in Chhattisgarh, he visited the state just two months later. The BJP government has provided complete support, and a collaborative strategy was formed. On August 24, 2024, he announced that by March 2026, Naxalism would be eradicated from the entire country.
