Imphal, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : The final voter list for Manipur, released following the completion of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR), indicates that the number of female voters now exceeds that of male voters. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Arun Kumar Sinha announced that as of July 1, there are a total of 1,960,620 registered voters in the state, comprising 1,006,962 women, 953,350 men, and 308 voters identifying as third-gender.
The gender ratio in the final list stands at 1,056, significantly higher than the national average. Sinha noted that the final list includes 56,871 new voters, while 30,650 were removed.
The final voter list was issued on Sunday for all 60 assembly constituencies, which encompass both valley and hill regions. The draft voter list, released on July 5, initially included 1,934,399 voters, with 993,660 being female. A total of 158,677 voters were excluded from the draft due to missing enumeration forms. Reasons for the absence of these forms included 34,740 individuals being unreachable, 72,473 relocating, 43,000 deceased, 7,394 duplicates, and 1,070 for other reasons.
From July 5 to August 4, a total of 96,985 claims and objections were filed. During this period, 60 electoral registration officers (EROs) and 84 assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) conducted thorough investigations. All 2,956 booth-level officers (BLOs) coordinated with their respective agents to ensure a complete field verification of absent, relocated, deceased, and fraudulent voters. Help desks were established in the offices of the CEO and all 16 district electoral officers (DEOs) to assist voters in filling out enumeration forms.
Sinha credited the successful conclusion of the SIR and the publication of the final voter list to the collaborative efforts of district electoral officers, EROs, AEROs, BLO supervisors, and volunteers across the 16 districts. With the addition of 85 new polling stations, the total number in the state has now reached 3,041.
