Washim, May 17: A 47-year-old man has been arrested in Washim, Maharashtra, for allegedly defrauding an unemployed youth by promising him a government job and issuing a fake appointment letter. The accused, identified as Ramesh Ramkrishna Navghare, is accused of swindling ₹1.73 lakh from the victim.
The local crime branch (LCB) uncovered the fraud linked to fake recruitment assurances for a position in the Panchayat Samiti during their investigation. According to a complaint filed at the Washim police station, Navghare promised the complainant a government job as a Panel Technical Officer (PTO) in the Washim Panchayat Samiti. Claiming to have influence over the recruitment process, he allegedly extorted money from the victim multiple times.
The complainant handed over a total of ₹1.73 lakh to Navghare, hoping for a permanent government position. To convince the victim of the legitimacy of the recruitment process, the accused provided a fake appointment letter purportedly issued by the Karanja Panchayat Samiti.
However, the complainant grew suspicious upon verifying the appointment details, discovering discrepancies in the documents provided. Further inquiries revealed that the appointment letter was fraudulent and that no official recruitment had taken place.
Realizing he had been defrauded, the victim contacted the police and filed a formal complaint. Taking the allegations seriously, the Washim police and LCB initiated an investigation. During the probe, they received information about Navghare’s whereabouts and subsequently apprehended him at a hotel in Washim.
Police officials stated that a case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to fraud, forgery, and criminal breach of trust. Investigators are now trying to determine if Navghare used similar tactics to deceive other job seekers. Authorities are examining documents and financial transactions linked to the accused as part of the ongoing investigation.
