Kolkata, April 22: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed on Wednesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would use central forces to facilitate fake voting during the assembly elections. She urged citizens to refrain from participating in such political activities.
While addressing an election rally in Haripal, Hooghly district, Banerjee called on voters to remain vigilant and ensure their voting rights are exercised without interference or intimidation.
Banerjee accused the central forces of planning to vote in large numbers, stating that the BJP would exploit them for fraudulent voting. “I urge you not to engage in politics. We salute you for protecting the nation. But how dare the central forces chant ‘BJP Zindabad’?” she questioned.
She further stated that central forces would conduct checks at polling stations. “If they touch women, you must take legal action. No one should resort to weapons or violence. You know what to do in such situations,” she advised.
The Chief Minister also claimed that the BJP is running a minority government at the center, which could collapse at any moment. “We defeated the BJP in the recent Lok Sabha elections. This government will fall this year. It relies on the mercy of a few,” she asserted.
Banerjee appealed to members of minority communities to cast their votes before embarking on the Hajj pilgrimage. She announced that air services for Hajj would commence on April 27, cleverly timed just before the elections on April 29. “I request everyone to vote before going for Hajj. If you do not vote, they will expel you from the country through the NRC. Do not waste your vote. I will ensure all arrangements for Hajj,” she stated.
The first phase of the assembly elections in West Bengal will take place on Thursday, with voting scheduled across 152 assembly constituencies in several districts, under strict and extensive security measures.
