Mamata Banerjee Urges Vigilance Among Party Workers Ahead of Upcoming Elections

Kolkata, March 22: Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of the Trinamool Congress, urged party workers to remain vigilant during a meeting in the Bhawanipur assembly constituency on Sunday. She expressed concerns about the electoral process and emphasized the need for alertness even after voting concludes.

During her address to party leaders and workers in Chetla, South Kolkata, Banerjee highlighted the importance of Bhawanipur, where she is contesting, considering it a crucial electoral battle.

According to a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader present at the meeting, Banerjee warned workers about potential irregularities and instructed them to stay alert during the voting and counting processes.

She noted that several officials had been removed following the announcement of the election schedule, which has limited the state administration’s role during the election period. Banerjee urged party members to remain present and vigilant even after voting ends, stressing the need to monitor secure rooms housing electronic voting machines (EVMs).

She raised concerns about possible disruptions, including power outages, and advised workers against leaving immediately after voting concludes.

Additionally, the Chief Minister discussed the party’s broader political roadmap, stating that after the West Bengal assembly elections, the focus would shift to national politics. She assured voters facing issues like removal from the electoral roll that the party would provide legal assistance.

TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee also addressed the meeting, calling on party workers to aim for a larger victory margin in Bhawanipur and to avoid any complacency. He referenced past electoral performances, urging the party to improve booth-level results and increase their victory margin.

Banerjee encouraged workers to strengthen outreach efforts and enhance voter support across all areas. In the upcoming elections, the BJP has fielded Suvendu Adhikari against Mamata Banerjee in Bhawanipur. The two leaders previously faced off in the 2021 assembly elections in Nandigram, where Adhikari won by a narrow margin. Mamata Banerjee later contested and won decisively in the Bhawanipur by-election that same year.

Senior party leaders, including Firhad Hakim and Subrata Bakshi, were also present at the Sunday meeting.
