Kolkata, August 5: Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress and former Chief Minister of West Bengal, has alleged that she has not received royalties for her books since the change of power in the state. She suggested that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may have a role in this disruption.
In a Facebook Live session, Banerjee stated, “Some people spread various lies about me. They know that during my tenure as Chief Minister, I never took a single rupee as salary. To this day, I have not received any pension as a Member of Parliament. I rely on my book royalties for my livelihood, but I have not received any this year. People are certainly silent out of fear of the BJP. Many bought my books at the book fair, yet I have not received any royalties. There is definitely some game behind this.”
Recently, Banerjee has reduced her direct interactions with the media, often opting for Facebook Live to communicate her views. During her latest session, she accused the BJP-led administration in West Bengal of deliberately obstructing her political activities and restricting her movement.
She remarked, “I am not allowed to take to the streets. I am not permitted to organize political events. I have to seek court permission to hold rallies. My constitutional and democratic rights are being violated. Other political parties are allowed to conduct their programs, but we are not. There is forced occupation of district councils and panchayats.”
Banerjee also noted that the Trinamool Congress has never accepted foreign funding like many other political parties, yet all of the party’s bank accounts have been intentionally frozen.
She concluded, “But I want to say one thing. The more they try to stop me, the stronger I will return. They must not forget that I have a history in student and youth politics. I do not care about the chair; I only care about the people.”
