New Delhi, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Former Vice President Hamid Ansari’s remarks on communalism and religious freedom have drawn sharp criticism from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Chief Minister labeled Ansari’s comments as a threat to Indian culture and an attack on the Sanatan tradition. In response, several Congress leaders have come forward to defend Ansari.
Congress MP Imran Masood questioned how Ansari’s statements could be considered disrespectful to the Sanatan tradition. “What exactly did he say that was disrespectful? I heard nothing in his remarks that was against Sanatan values. This seems to be a habitual response. You demolish mosques, destroy shrines, and commit violence against us, and whenever we speak out, you label it as an insult to Sanatan. How is this an insult? You are spreading hatred,” Masood stated.
Congress leader Udit Raj echoed similar sentiments, stating, “I don’t believe Hamid Ansari criticized the Sanatan tradition. What wrong did he say? Both Nehru and Dr. Ambedkar expressed similar views. Why is so much emphasis placed on his Muslim identity? Such speeches and statements happen daily. It seems they are always looking for an opportunity to create controversy around anything a Muslim says.”
Asim Waqaar added, “Hamid Ansari has spent his life working alongside Sanatani Hindus. During his tenure as Vice President, the President, Prime Minister, and Home Minister were all Hindus. I think Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath misunderstands Ansari. He stands against those who incite crime, hatred among castes and religions, and create disturbances on the streets. Hamid Ansari is not against Sanatanis or Hindus.”
