Malayalam actor and production controller Kannan Pattambi has passed away at the age of 62, delivering a significant loss to the film industry. He was associated with the Malayalam film world for nearly three decades, contributing both as an actor and in key production roles.
Kannan Pattambi had been battling a serious kidney-related illness for a long time. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode, where he breathed his last. His elder brother and film producer Major Ravi confirmed the news.
Major Ravi shared an emotional tribute to his younger brother on Facebook in Malayalam. He wrote, “My dear brother Kannan Pattambi, who worked as a production controller in films, left us last night at 11:41 pm. His last rites will be held today at 4 pm at our home in Najangattiri, Palakkad district. My younger brother is now in heaven. Om Shanti.”
Kannan Pattambi was born in 1964 in Pattambi, Palakkad district, Kerala. His father, P. Kuttishankaran Nair, was an officer in the Indian Army, and his mother’s name was A.T. Satyabhama. He made his mark in the Malayalam film industry both as a production controller and an actor. He was a close collaborator of his brother Major Ravi, who was formerly an Indian Army officer and later became a film director and producer. Kannan played a vital role in the production of films directed or produced by Major Ravi, including the notable project “Mission 90 Days,” which was based on Major Ravi’s experiences during the Rajiv Gandhi assassination investigation.
As an actor, Kannan Pattambi appeared in around 23 Malayalam films. His performances were widely appreciated. He acted alongside superstar Mohanlal in several films, including “Pulimurugan,” which became the first Malayalam movie to collect over 100 crore at the box office.
